I keep a little room inside for the aftershock.
That’s where the voice goes when it can’t be brave in public.

I clean up myself, my own debris,
and arrange it until it looks like proof that love was here.

People keep calling it peace. It isn’t.
It’s discipline. It’s choosing not to ruin what the world hasn’t ruined yet.

I am not unbroken. I am trained.

I learned to lower my voice so the ghosts won’t wake,
